Gandalf Wants Jackson to Direct “Hobbit”

28 11 2006

Ian McKellen, better known as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movie, has released a statement on his website saying that he is saddened to hear that Peter Jackson may not be directing the Hobbit movie.

On my own account, I am very sad as I should have relished re-visiting Middle Earth with Peter again as team-leader. It’s hard to imagine any other director matching his achievement in Tolkien country,” — Ian McKellen

Gandalf — I mean McKellen — went on to say that “Only one can carry the ring –erm– direct the movie.” I fully agree with the White Wizard.

Don’t fret yet as Peter Jackson may actually be still be in the running as director for The Hobbit. Perhaps they want to clear up the legal issues before signing Jackson onto the project.

There are however rumors of other directors that are being considered, such as Alfonso Cuaron who has experience with fantasy from directing the Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban and Sam Raimi, known for the Spiderman movies.

As a big Tolkien fan, I’m still disappointed that New Line is actually even considering other directors beside Jackson. There will be more on this as New Line and Peter Jackson settle this matter one way or the other. With the outcome as Peter Jackson as director, hopefully.
